Discover Agde and Cap d’Agde

The town of Agde is often referred to as the “black pearl of the Mediterranean”, because of its many basalt stone buildings. If you stay at Les Jardins d’Agathe, you’ll find yourself just a stone’s throw (less than 5 kilometers) from Agde town center. The town is packed with places of interest. Visit the Saint-Etienne cathedral dating back to 872, the remains of the ramparts, the gates delimiting the ancient Greek city and much more. Prefer to relax on the sand and soak up the sun? Our Cap d’Agde campsite, with swimming pool and waterslide, is less than a kilometer from the beach. During your stay at “Les Jardins d’Agathe” campsite, you’ll enjoy relaxing and sunbathing on the various beaches of Cap d’Agde.

60 km from our campsite, discoverone of France’s most beautiful villages in the heart of the Hérault Gorges: Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.

Let’s wander through this medieval town where time has stood still… Take a stroll and enjoy the manycraft stores that liven up the cobbled pedestrian streets. After a short detour to the santonnier at the Musée du village d’antan, continue your stroll and contemplate the Romanesque façade of Maison Lorimy, the prison tower and the Château du Géant, not forgetting Gellone Abbey and Saint-Laurent Church.
On the village’s magnificent square, you’ll be able to take a refreshing break beside one of the many fountains in the village, in the shade of the imposing 160-year-old plane tree. What a treat!

Top towns and villages to see around the campsite in Hérault

A little further away from your campsite in Cap d’Agde, you’ll have the chance to visit some of the region’s most emblematic towns:


Béziers: Béziers will charm you with its rich history and the Fonseranes locks. Just 20 kilometers from “Les Jardins d’Agathe” campsite, discover the city of Béziers and all its treasures. You won’t want to miss the Fonseranes locks, an engineering feat from the 17ᵉ century, directly linked to the construction of the Canal du Midi. While in Béziers, we recommend visiting the Ensérune site and museum, which traces the history of Gaul, the modern arena and Saint-Nazaire cathedral.

Pézenas: stroll through the town center, which has retained its old-world charm with its large 17th-century houses. Some monuments stand out from the landscape and will intrigue you: the collegiate church of Saint-Jean, the church of Saint-Jean-de-Bébian and the church of Saint-Ursule. The history of Pézenas is said to be linked to that of Molière. Indeed, Molière is said to have drawn inspiration from certain locations to create the characters in his famous plays.

Sète: drop your bags at our small family campsite in Cap d’Agde and head 15 kilometers away to the charming town of Sète. The birthplace of Georges Brassens is sure to amaze and surprise you. Discover the town center with its many seafood restaurants. Finally, climb to the top of Mont Saint-Clair for a superb view of the sea, the Etang de Thau and the town.

Montpellier: During your stopover in Cap d’Agde, don’t miss Montpellier, 60 kilometers away. As you stroll through the narrow streets of Montpellier, you’ll love the Place de la Comédie, with its Trois Grâces fountain and theater. Discover the Écusson and Beaux-Arts districts. Two of the city’s must-see monuments are the Arc de Triomphe and the medical school, one of the oldest in France still in operation.
